Photovoltaic technology has been on the rise since the end of the 20th century and is indispensable for the energy transition. Silver is an essential raw material. Countries are increasingly opting to invest in carbon-free energy sources instead of fossil fuels. The World Bank sees a risk that silver prices could weaken due to lower activity from China. However, silver consumption in green energy could more than make up for this. Precious metals are off to a strong start in 2022. Gold shines as a safe haven and silver is also popular with investors.
Currently, there is great concern among investors due to the rising Covid 19 infection figures in China and the resulting hard lockdowns. In addition to Shanghai, Beijing is now also affected. Shipping disruptions will also impact Europe. Again, supply chains of semiconductors and electronics are affected. Some are already advising Christmas shopping, because towards the end of the year many a shelf could be empty or prices for certain goods exorbitantly expensive. Foresight is called for, not only in purchasing, but also in investments. Thinking ahead can't hurt, on the contrary. After all, economic growth is trending downward, while inflation is trending upward. Price increases in a wide variety of areas must now be accepted. For investors it could be now high time to position themselves in precious metals, especially in silver, for example with MAG Silver or Discovery Silver.
