Dear Readers,
The global market for clean energy technologies is growing rapidly. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), it grew by an average of 20 percent per year over the past decade and reached just under 1.2 trillion U.S. dollars in 2025. In 2035, electric cars are expected to account for around three-quarters of the total market value, according to IEA scenarios. Germany is keeping pace as well: According to the DIW, about 19 percent of all new passenger cars were fully electric in 2025, and in the first eight months of 2026, the figure had already risen to a solid 26 percent. In August, the share reached 32.4 percent, according to the KBA. At the same time, according to Destatis, 59.1 percent of the electricity fed into the grid in the first half of 2026 came from renewable energy sources.
Low-emission hydrogen is still in its infancy: According to the IEA, nearly $8 billion flowed into this sector in 2025 - about 80 percent more than in the previous year. A key point to note is that all these technologies require raw materials such as copper, nickel, cobalt, tin, lithium, and rare earth elements.
Blue Moon Metals: Nussir Under Construction, Springer Set to Begin
Blue Moon Metals - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/blue-moon-metals-inc/ - is developing five polymetallic brownfield projects: in Norway, the Nussir copper-gold-silver project and the NSG copper-zinc-gold-silver project; in the U.S., the Blue Moon zinc-gold-silver-copper project, the Springer tungsten-molybdenum project, and the Apex germanium-gallium-copper project.
For Nussir, the Executive Board made the investment decision to begin construction in April 2026. According to the company, ore production is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2027. Blue Moon holds a 94.52 percent stake in the project.
At Springer in Nevada, the permits required to begin construction have been obtained. Production is scheduled to resume in the fourth quarter of 2027. In September, Blue Moon agreed with The Elmet Group and EQ Resources on an investment of $150 million to $175 million in the Springer complex.
In addition, Blue Moon has agreed to acquire 33 tungsten and antimony projects in the western United States, as well as the Turner copper-gold deposit in Oregon. NSG is to be merged with the neighboring VMS Explorations; in return, Blue Moon would receive a 30 percent stake, with the transaction scheduled to close by the end of November 2026.
NexMetals: Selebi Resource Grows by 72 Percent
NexMetals Mining - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/nexmetals-mining-corp/ - is redeveloping the former Selebi and Selkirk copper-nickel-cobalt-platinum group metal mines in Botswana. According to the company, the projects have good road, rail, and electricity connections.
On October 1, the company reported a new estimate for Selebi Main: 32.47 million metric tons containing 1.53 percent copper and 0.98 percent nickel - approximately 72 percent more tonnage than in 2024. Cobalt is included for the first time. The entire resource is classified as “inferred.”
The estimate for Selebi North is still pending and is expected to follow separately. For Selkirk, NexMetals had already increased the resource in 2026 by about 70 percent to 78.2 million metric tons with 0.66 percent copper equivalent in the “indicated” category.
Conclusion: Blue Moon and NexMetals on the Verge of Milestones
The expansion of clean energy is driving up demand for critical metals. With Nussir, Blue Moon is on track to begin ore production in the third quarter of 2027 and plans to resume operations at Springer in the fourth quarter of 2027.
NexMetals is expanding its resource base and will next present its estimate for Selebi North.
