The advantages of silver-zinc accumulators are their high capacity, very high short-term current pulses and low self-discharge. Rather disadvantageous is the high price, a short service life and a certain memory effect. Nevertheless, they are the first choice for mobile mini radios or torpedoes used by the German Navy.
Because of the low weight, this type of battery was used in various satellites, as well as in the lunar module and in the Apollo lunar vehicle. Today, these special batteries are used in hearing aids and quartz wristwatches and can be recharged. In the USA, two companies are competing to supply the US Navy with silver-zinc batteries for various deep-sea vehicles.
A major advantage of these batteries is that up to 95 percent of their components can be broken down and recycled for the production of new batteries. This is just one example of an application where silver is used, the metal that is used to about half in industry. The silver is supplied by companies that have silver in the ground, such as Endeavour Silver or MAG.
Endeavour Silver - https://www.commodity-tv.net/c/search_adv/?v=298511 - owns several producing silver mines in Mexico. Approximately 10.2 to 11.2 million ounces of silver equivalent are expected to be mined this year. In the foreseeable future, silver will come from five high-grade mines. The company's goal of becoming a leading silver producer is approaching.
MAG Silver - https://www.commodity-tv.net/c/search_adv/?v=298561 - will join the ranks of producers in the first half of 2020. Together with its partner Fresnillo, MAG Silver owns the Juanicipio project in Mexico. The project contains an estimated 200 million ounces of silver. Now that it is well advanced underground, the construction of the above-ground infrastructure is already underway.
