The so-called "environmental bonus", the purchase premium for electric cars, was paid out in the amount of 765 million euros in the first quarter of 2021. This is a record. Last year, the purchase premium totaled 652 million euros. The premium of €9,000 for pure electric vehicles under €40,000 has given a strong boost to sales figures. There are also subsidies for hydrogen fuel cell cars and for plug-in hybrid vehicles.
The EU's climate requirements have to be met, and these are becoming increasingly stringent. Racing is also becoming more environmentally friendly. In 2022, components for future electric drives will be tested at the Dakar Rally, the toughest there is. Formula E is an official world championship and is already in its seventh season, now also available to admire on free TV, by the way. Manufacturers of electric cars use Formula-E to position themselves in the e-mobility market. New to racing is the Extreme E motorsport series, the first race of which was held in Saudi Arabia with electric SUVs. Extreme-E is intended to draw attention to the transience of nature.
This is an exciting development. It is made possible by the use of battery raw materials that are installed in electric cars. In addition to lithium, this is primarily cobalt. Since cobalt often comes from the problematic Congo, cobalt projects in other countries are a big plus. This is where Canada Nickel Company and Mawson Gold come into play.
Mawson Gold - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7nqj4MLbIk - owns the high-grade Rajapalot gold-cobalt project in Finland. In addition to this flagship project, the portfolio includes gold projects in Australia and a gold project in Oregon.
Canada Nickel Company - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8sELAUH-_Y - is on the battery metals trail in Ontario with its 100 percent owned Crawford nickel-cobalt-sulfide project.
