Electromobility - nickel, cobalt, lithium
Battery raw materials are in demand and are becoming increasingly popular.
Almost everyone is now familiar with lithium-ion batteries. Without them, there would be no electromobility and no portable devices. Cobalt, for example, is used in the batteries. According to the German Mineral Resources Agency, demand for cobalt is expected to rise. By 2026, between 187,000 and 225,000 tons of cobalt will be needed worldwide. The fact that the majority of cobalt comes from the Congo is not so pleasing due to the working conditions there. China buys most of the cobalt from Congo, processes it and then sends it out into the world in various products. Cobalt chemicals are used for batteries, cobalt metals are mainly used for superalloys, magnets and hard metals. Nickel is an important metal for alloys and steel production. Nickel makes steel resistant to corrosion. Nickel is also found in rechargeable batteries. Lithium is also an indispensable component of these batteries and is therefore installed in every electric vehicle. In recent months, the USA has also approved a lithium mine and granted another company a loan for the development of a lithium mine. So far, there is only one plant in the USA. But new lithium projects have to fight against resistance from indigenous people or environmentalists. Water sources, important cultural sites and even a wildflower are at risk. Although the price of lithium has currently fallen and producers are having to reduce production or postpone expansions, the demand for lithium will continue to grow in any case.
Century Lithium - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/century-lithium-corp/ - in Nevada is working hard to replenish the supply of lithium. Lithium carbonate with a purity of 99.5 percent is already being produced in a pilot plant.
Canada Nickel Company - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/canada-nickel-company-inc/ - is ideally positioned in cobalt and nickel. The flagship Crawford project is located in Ontario in the Timmins Nickel District and is wholly owned by Canada Nickel Company.
