Nuclear energy offers energy security and is part of the energy mix that is intended to replace fossil fuels. The fact that the uranium supply is in deficit is leading to increases in the price of uranium, making uranium companies more valuable. An estimated 140 million to 145 million pounds of uranium will be produced this year. Demand is around 180 million pounds. Experts do not expect the uranium supply to increase until 2028 at the earliest, more likely 2030. It is important to ensure long-term security of supply. Incidentally, decommissioned radioactive sources can still be used for medical purposes. For example, Canada is working on recycling material from Thailand as part of an international IAEA initiative. The aim is to support innovative cancer treatments. More than 65 countries are participating in this initiative to produce life-saving radioisotopes. Radium-226 used to be used in radiotherapy. Today, it is the raw material used to produce the radioisotope actinium-225. And this is known for its ability to kill cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue. A new radiotherapy industry is to be established for this new type of cancer therapy. With the support of the International Atomic Energy Agency, radium-226 sources have already been sent from Thailand to Canada. Further transfers are being planned. There are promising companies such as IsoEnergy and Cosa Resources for investors who want to invest in uranium.
