These new gold bars have a serial number and a QR code that allows real-time verification of digital authenticity. The use of gold as a store of value should be encouraged and contribute to the spread of gold. The Central Bank of Uzbekistan is not alone in this. Other central banks also want to promote the attractiveness of gold. Word has got around that the fiat currencies are not doing well.
Uzbekistan holds about 57 percent of its reserves in the form of gold and is now asking the population to buy gold as a store of value. Before there were the new bars (5, 10, 20 or 50 grams), the Uzbeks at home could only buy gold commemorative coins at a fine ounce, which was too expensive for the average citizen. The QR code on gold bars is not a novelty. A Swiss refinery had already introduced it before.
The Italian central bank also refers to gold in its statements as "an excellent hedge against adversity and high inflation". And gold cannot be devalued because it is not a value issued by a government or central bank. With the statement "gold does not depend on the solvency of the issuer", the Central Bank of Italy warns of the counterparty risk of money.
In order to invest in gold as a hedge, it is possible to invest part of the portfolio in shares of gold companies. For example, in Kore Mining or Trillium Gold Mines.
Kore Mining - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MSozM_A7dM&t=11s - owns two gold projects in California (Imperial and Long Valley) and two in British Columbia (FG Gold and Gold Creek), all wholly owned.
Trillium Gold Mines - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0qYc6BTWlE&t=5s - manages exploration and development projects in British Columbia in the Red Lake mining district.
