Gold trading volumes continue to rise
Global gold trading volumes have risen for three months in a row.
In November, this amounted to an average of 290 billion US dollars. After the gold price had fallen, this still represents an increase of eight percent compared to October. This was primarily due to futures trading volumes on the Comex and the Shanghai Futures Exchange. On the other hand, global gold ETF volumes also rose significantly. The growth was generated by North America in first place. Only global OTC gold trading (over-the-counter trading) was down on the previous month. The weak gold price presumably had a negative impact on trading in gold futures. Overall, however, inflows into global gold ETFs have been positive so far in 2024. Indian gold ETFs are striking, with inflows for the eighth consecutive month in November. India is therefore in a positive mood for gold. Demand for ETFs in Europe has been low for months.
When investing in the gold mining sector, ETFs offer the opportunity to invest without selecting individual gold mining stocks. Royalty companies offer a particularly excellent opportunity. This is because they enable broad diversification and score points with their own characteristics. The mining risk lies with the partner companies of the royalty companies. Royalty companies are also not directly affected by issues such as rising labor and energy costs or budget overruns. Royalty companies do not mine themselves and do not operate mines; instead, they give money to the mine operators. Well-positioned royalty companies with a very well-diversified portfolio include Osisko Gold Royalties and Gold Royalty.
