Is the silver price about to break out to the upside?

Silver

While demand for silver is at record highs, there is a clear silver deficit.

2025 will probably be the fifth year in a row with a silver deficit. It is industrial demand that is fueling the silver deficit. The Silver Institute is already forecasting new record demand. The gold-silver ratio is still high and indicates that silver is undervalued. The industry will consume an estimated 1.2 billion ounces of silver this year. The main drivers are green technologies. Weaker demand for silverware and jewelry is therefore not so significant. Chart technicians believe that the downward trend line that has prevailed since fall 2024 was broken in January 2025. The silver price is also well above the sideways moving average lines. The tariffs imposed by US President Trump have led to silver and other metals finding their way into the US at the end of 2024. This is because there is a fear that tariffs could be imposed on them. LBMA silver stocks are therefore shrinking, which is strengthening the silver price and could lift it to new highs. In 2022, physical silver stocks in the vaults of the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) had already fallen drastically to around 26,000 tons. At the end of 2024, the figures were similar (25,739 tons of silver). However, the demand for silver has risen dramatically since 2022, as has the deficit. This is because silver is indispensable for modern technologies such as electromobility, 5G technology and the constantly growing solar market. According to forecasts, around 98% of silver reserves will be used for solar and photovoltaic modules by 2050.

It is therefore worth keeping an eye on the shares of silver companies such as Endeavour Silver - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/endeavour-silver-corp/ . The company has projects in Mexico, Nevada and Chile. An estimated 4.5 to 5.2 million ounces of silver and 30,500 to 34,000 ounces of gold are to be produced in 2025.

Discovery Silver - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/discovery-silver-corp/ - has solid silver and silver-zinc-lead projects in Mexico. The company has just acquired Newmont's Porcupine mine and is therefore also focusing on gold.
