Ships will be electrically

In Norway, electrically powered sightseeing ships are to sail in the fjords. Coastal towns are to be protected from emissions in this way

Floating hubs are designed to bring passengers from larger ships to the sightseeing ships. At the same time, the Norwegians also want to install charging stations there. The aim is to make shipping more environmentally friendly. Fuel cell systems for large ships are also the subject of intense research.

Platinum is used in these fuel cells. Major platinum and palladium production projects in South Africa include Sibanye-Stillwater, as well as in the USA. The company is a global leader in the processing and recycling of spent catalyst materials. Sibanye-Stillwater is also a major gold producer with projects in South Africa and South America.

Norway is particularly pushing the issue of emission-free drives. The world's first electrically driven car and passenger ferry has been on the road there since 2015. The 80-meter-long ferry gets its energy from lithium-ion batteries. This saves around 2,680 tons of carbon dioxide and 37 tons of nitrogen oxides per year.

The necessary batteries need lithium, among other things. Millennial Lithium has two projects in Argentina. The Pastos Grandes Lithium project is already well advanced - almost 13,000 hectares and mining licenses have already been granted.
