Silver - a jack of all trades, also for investors
The little brother of gold has many possibilities, even the ability to heal itself.
There are materials, types of concrete, ceramics or polymers that can repair small cracks by treating them with chemicals, heat or light. But nanosilver, as scientists in China have discovered, can do this without anyone intervening. The nanosilver repairs minute damage on its own. The reason is probably related to an atomic imbalance. This is a discovery that could influence the development of silver nanowires. The self-healing mechanism could hopefully be used in electronic devices, all without human intervention. A smartphone that repairs itself would be a beautiful thing. This even works when tested at minus 100 degrees Celsius. Gold does not have this amazing ability. Nanowires made of silver have many potential applications in medicine. Sometimes, however, gold nanowires are better suited for connecting nerve cells to medical devices. The resulting communication could be used for many nerve disorders and diseases. Research is progressing and silver wires are being combined with gold wires and silicone to achieve optimal results. So many things are possible with silver. Investors appreciate the fact that silver, like gold, retains its value. Even if the silver price is more volatile than the gold price.
Silver has performed well in terms of price this year. An ounce of silver currently costs just under USD 33. If the price of silver rises, chart technicians see the possibility that the medium-term trend channel at USD 37 per ounce could be reached. Silver in the form of coins or bars must be stored safely and handled with care. The stocks of companies that own silver and/or gold are easier to handle.
