The unique collection - there is nothing like it - comes from a private source, from collector Phil Lind, and it went to the University of British Columbia. Most of the extraordinary collection dates from the years between 1894 and 1904, when Dawson City blossomed overnight and became the second largest Canadian city west of Winnipeg. Gold was the magic word.
For years Lind collected objects, letters and much more, his grandfather was a prospector in the Yukon and Alaska and also in Dawson City. So, thanks to Lind, a fascinating time in Canadian history is being preserved and will be available online for those interested. Lind not only donated the artifacts, which are worth about half a million dollars, but an additional two million dollars for administration and preservation of the collection.
Gold and the history of gold are an exciting thing, not only for the investor or those interested in history. In British Columbia, many gold seekers are romping around today. One even speaks of the fourth gold rush. In the northwest of British Columbia lies the "Golden Triangle". In 1861, 1918 and in the 1980s there was a gold rush in each case. Today, companies such as Ximen Mining or Tudor Gold are located in this exciting area in British Columbia.
Tudor Gold - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEaHfDTZ2rg - has four projects in the Golden Triangle. The flagship Treaty Creek project contains gold, silver and copper and is 80 percent owned by Tudor Gold. The partner is Teuton.
Ximen Mining owns several gold projects in British Columbia and also a silver project. The gold deposits in the company's Kenville Mine were discovered in 1887, mining of gold, silver, lead and zinc took place. Today, the infrastructure there is excellent.
