Counterfeit gold bars
The counterfeits come onto the market to wash smuggled or illegal gold, according to Reuters and the refineries. Over the past three years, all four leading gold refineries in Switzerland have identified bars bearing the Swiss Refineries logo. However, they were not made by these. After all, the value amounts to at least 50 million US dollars.
It is not the gold bars weighing around 12.5 kilograms stored by central banks that are affected, but gold bars (one kilogram) about the size of a mobile phone. These gold bars are the most widely circulated form of gold in the world.
Although this is a relatively small part of global production, the counterfeits are hardly discernible. So it could also be more counterfeits than is known. Because the gold is real, only the markings are fake. Illegal trade with gold bars and money laundering should, however, be prevented. Gold supplies that finance terrorism, organized crime or conflict are to be stopped.
Although the number of counterfeit gold bars found has fallen since 2017, it is believed that the problem has increased as counterfeits become more sophisticated. The purity of a genuine bar is 99.99 percent. The fake ones mostly at 99.98 or 99.90 percent. In order to bet on the value preservation vehicle gold, not only bars should be bought, but also the shares of well positioned gold companies, such as Aurania Resources or Bluestone Resources.
Aurania Resources - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAYv2kyzfkY=15s - explores precious metals and copper properties. The main project is the Lost Cities Cutucu project in the Andes in Ecuador. Diamond drilling equipment is currently being used to explore the gold, silver and copper deposits there.
