Uranium could peak as early as the 1980s or as late as 2035. In 2017, for example, identified uranium reserves of around eight million tons were assumed. The uranium-235 isotope is split in a nuclear reactor. Each kilo of uranium produces as much energy as around 2,700 tons of coal. However, uranium-235 makes up only 0.7 percent of the mass of natural uranium. Uranium-235 is not renewable. Uranium consists of 99.3 percent of the isotope 238. Pure uranium metal was first extracted in 1841 by the Frenchman Eugene Peligot. Until the middle of the 20th century, uranium compounds were still used to color ceramics and glass. The radioactivity of uranium was discovered by Antoine Henri Becquerel in 1896. Today, in the wake of climate change, nuclear energy is experiencing a renaissance, as can be seen from the significant rise in the price of uranium. Today, uranium is used almost exclusively in nuclear power plants. Years ago, it was converted from military to civilian use in the course of nuclear disarmament.
The current uranium reserves can supply people with energy for an almost infinite period of time. The figures vary greatly as to how long uranium will last, as it depends on the financial outlay required to extract it. If the price rises, the amount of economically viable reserves will also increase. Nuclear power is clean, sustainable and reliable and many countries rely on it. A rising demand for uranium is generally predicted, as the number of nuclear reactors is increasing while at the same time reserves are dwindling. An investment in uranium companies such as Consolidated Uranium or IsoEnergy could therefore be worthwhile.
Consolidated Uranium - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/consolidated-uranium-inc/ - owns uranium projects in Australia, Canada, Argentina and the USA and is currently merging with IsoEnergy.
IsoEnergy - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/isoenergy-ltd/ - owns very high-quality uranium projects in the Athabasca Basin in Saskatchewan, including the outstanding Hurricane deposit.
