With the recovery of China's economy, nickel demand is picking up. The rest of the world will probably still need some time to reach old levels. Nickel is important for the stainless-steel sector and for superalloys. Also, a strong area of application is electromobility. Elon Musk had already called for more nickel mining last summer, as the raw material is an essential component in the batteries used in electric cars.
Nickel and also the battery metal cobalt are owned, for example, by Canada Nickel Company - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hp1PbZZI-ho - at the Crawford nickel-cobalt sulfide project in Ontario. In addition, the company owns trademark rights for the production of non-carbon nickel, cobalt and iron products.
There is also an advanced cobalt and gold property in Finland, it is owned by Mawson Gold, the Rajapalot property. Mawson Gold - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8Qu1EGWgIE - is pursuing other projects in Australia.
But back to nickel. There is high-grade nickel, which is needed for batteries, and there is lower-grade nickel, which is used for stainless steel alloys. Nickel class 1 provides range and fast charging in the battery. Cobalt is also integrated, along with manganese and aluminum. These raw materials ensure that overheating does not occur.
Experts expect demand for nickel class 1 to roughly double in the next ten years due to booming electromobility. And battery manufacturers want nickel from ecological and sustainable sources. Nickel and also cobalt in raw material projects, such as those at Canada Nickel Company and Mawson Gold, should therefore have enough customers in the coming years.
